Christ Our King Senior Youth Center 'Beach House' Mount Pleasant, SC
Collaboration with Glick Boehm Architects and Hill Construction
This 7,000 square foot new construction Earth Craft Certified intergenerational facility is the first of its kind in the South Carolina diocese of the Catholic Church. Offering a place for both the youngest and oldest generations of the Christ Our King parish, consisting of over 2,400 families, to come together and share in one another’s wisdom and energy. “The Beach House” works to mimic a larger scale Sullivan’s Island beach house, where extended families in the Lowcountry have traditionally come together for fun and relaxation.
The interior of the building was designed with sustainability at the forefront. With the utilization of natural day light, an energy efficient building envelop, use of low VOC interior paints, pre- and post-consumer recycled content interior materials, ceiling fans and window treatments, energy efficient lighting and appliances and a designated recycling center. The interior works to create a bright, open, healthy and energy efficient environment for youth and senior citizens alike.
