a blend of styles
This classic Charleston home from 1835 is filled with original details and historic character, but needed better flow and function. The clients have varied tastes - they are inspired by everything from vibrant Indian colors and patterns to the clean, timeless lines of Mid Century design - and wanted to marry their eclectic style with the traditional structure.
As part of this project, the kitchen was relocated and transformed into a spacious, central hub within the home. Original trim and detailing is juxtaposed with a sleek, modern cabinetry layout, creating a European-inspired look. A fun pop of color on the island, as well as in the saturated Pantry beyond, speaks to the bold and playful nature of the clients. The Primary suite serves as a warm sanctuary, featuring layers of texture, a custom "floating" bed built-in, and a wash of color and natural stone in the bath. A guest suite above the detached garage was the perfect chance to explore the bolder shades the clients found themselves drawn to.
