the essence of minimalism

An exercise in minimalism in an historic setting; taking away until only the useful and meaningful remain, in proper balance. This Client-inspired study of simplicity went as far as to peel away damaged elements of existing plaster to reveal the bare structure beyond – creating a meaningful connection to the bones and history of their original historic home.

A sleek, functional kitchen and adjacent breakfast nook was created, not only to serve as the heart of this family home, but also as a backdrop to a stunning art collection filled with family heirlooms and priceless pieces. The Architect/Interior Design team worked to create a contemporary hyphen off the back of the home, as well, overlooking a stunning European-inspired courtyard. The hyphen included floor-to-ceiling windows in the light-filled family room, and an entirely new primary suite.
